Emergency?

Should your animal fall ill during the night or at the weekend, telephone the practice. This number is answered by a member of the team 24 hours a day. We can provide advice or arrange for one of our vets to see your animal. Bear in mind the person answering your call in the middle of the night may be at home, asleep. Please use the out-of-hours line in true emergencies only.

Your Vet – At home:

Many people find bringing their pet to the surgery difficult. Perhaps your dog gets travel sick, your cat has a phobia of the car, or you have several pets that are difficult to transport at the same time. If this sounds familiar then maybe our new visiting vet service will be of interest. For a modest fee of £10 a vet and assistant will travel to you and provide care for your animals at home. Once with you we will be able to do most out-patient work, at the normal in-practice price. The service is designed to cater for routine procedures such as vaccinations and also non-urgent problems like itchy skin, sore ears, mild lameness, etc.

The practice area has been divided into 4 zones visited one day each week.

Tuesday afternoon Hay town Including Cusop
Wednesday West of Hay bluff and South of the Wye Llanthony, Talgarth, Pengenfford, Brecon, along A470 towards Builth Wells
Thursday North of the Wye Including Painscastle, Kington, Weobley, Staunton on Wye
Friday East of Hay Bluff and South of the Wye Including The Golden Valley, Bredwardine, Preston on Wye, Michealchurch Escley, Craswall

In order to run the service efficiently, certain terms and conditions apply.

  • We ask that visits are booked at least 48 hours in advance.
  • Payment will be expected at the time of the visit, by cash or cheque.
  • There may be an additional fee payable for homes outside a 15 mile radius of Hay on Wye.
  • We can call you on the morning of the visit to give you our estimated time of arrival. If you request a time when booking your appointment we will do our best to accommodate this.
  • At present, ‘zone days’ apply only to small animal patients. If you are interested in a similar service for your horse or farm animals telephone and speak to one of the partners.

For more information please contact the surgery. We are happy to visit you at home on other days of the week for our standard visit fee of £19.50 + VAT.
